Do the concepts of balance and harmony play a role in your spiritual path?

Either harmony between people, groups, or within the universe. However the concept applies to you.

Thank you.
I will have to send this one to voting, there are too many good answers to choose from.

What a perfect time for me to address a question of this nature!
First of all I will say emphatically, YES! The concept of "harmony" meaning compatibility, agreement, and cooperative action is very much a part of my draw and connection to living my life in a Jewish path.

I say today is a perfect time to address this question because at sunset today it begins Tu B’shvat, the New Year of the trees.
The name of the holiday is literally the 15th of Shevat. The 15th of Shevat was marked as the New Year for calculating the age of trees for tithing. Before the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 C.E., ten percent of all produce was set aside for the support of the priests of the Temple and the poor.

In the 16th century, Jewish communities were trying to once again reestablish identity there as a Jewish nation, connected to the land. They did not have the Temple there for the purposes of tithing, but they wished to honor this time as a way to continue to honor the Torah precepts of working to restore the earth to harmony, to of Tikkun Olam, or Repair of the World. This is a central concept in Judaism that not only promotes social justice, but environmental responsibility, and an appreciation of our place in the world as stewards of all life.

In recent decades, Tu B’Shevat has been called “ The Jewish Arbor Day” or “ The Jewish Earth Day”. Tu B’Shevat has become a day of environmental awareness for Jewish children in Israel and in the United States, where children and families often purchase certificates for planting trees from the Jewish National Fund in honor or memory of friends and loved ones in addition to planting trees in their own communities.

"Justice, justice shall you pursue" commanded of us in the Torah, is at the heart of the Jewish drive for social justice for all human beings.
It is found in every branch of Judaism in great measure, however,
it has been said that this is the "soul" of the movement of Reform Judaism, to which I am an adherent.

The vision of the Davidic messiah in Judaism is not merely about all humans recognizing God, but about the world itself in balance, harmony and peace.

Judaism is a world-affirming, not world-denying faith. We use the gifts and blessings we have in this world to make it better for ourselves, for our families and for the rest of the world. The great sage Hillel, whom you may recognize as the one Jesus paraphrased in a slightly different form, declared not only that what is distasteful to you do not do to another, but left us this quote that teaches of other ethical lessons of Judaism

If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am for myself alone, what am I?
    If not now, when?

The world can be a sad, cruel place and it is the very role of Israel to struggle with God and find our place in God’s creation to make it a better one.
We are partners with God and our fellow living creatures working to repair and restore it to harmony and a state of perfection.(Tikkun Olam or Repair of the World) We aren’t expected to BE perfect but to strive toward it and help along others on the way as well as be willing to take the hand of another when we need help.
In focusing on our deeds and how we live and treat one another, we come to greater awarness of the Divine..Judaism stresses deed over creed.

The world to come..whatever it is..will take care of itself. It’s this world that we’re entrusted with in the here and now.

Judaism teaches that humanity’s role is to work with each other to help God with perfecting and restoring or repairing anything out of harmony, any and all injustice or opression, any poverty, sickness, etc. Our walk with Hashem is more about deed than creed.

It isn’t about earning a ticket into heaven. It is about fulfilling what we believe our purpose for existence is all about and how we achieve connection to one another and to Hashem (God)

So, today for my miniscule part in working to achieve harmony, I will plant a pecan tree for Tu’B'Shvat, I come here to Yahoo Answers to try to help answer questions about Judaism for understanding between peoples, and I work to better understand others through reading answers to questions I may have.

    Shalom y’all
    :)

edit: Odd that of all the answers, mine is the only one that has a thumbs down. Is it a thumbs down to the fact that Judaism has a great focus on balance and harmony? ( I left off the aspects of yetzer hara and yetzer hatov, the inclinations to evil and to the good and how we learn to master the evil and seek the good, but recognize that the struggle of life is a balance of the tension between the two)

Or was the thumbs down simply because they did not like knowing that Judaism has this focus? Or is it a thumbs down to Judaism, period?
